Instructor Information: 教师信息

李惠林,云南省翻译工作者学会理事,昆明理工大学副教授,现在该校教授应用翻译和高级英语。1978 1982于云南师范大学中文系主修汉语言文学,1985-1987于湖南大学英语系应用语言学研究生班学习。199920012007 年两度作为访问学者赴美南方理工大学进修技术交际学,发表过多篇有关翻译,对比修辞和技术交际论文,出版过两本著作:《跨文化交际》(2006),《当代美语话题口语语体研究》(2008)参译《资源回收技术》(1997

 Li Huilin is a member of the Council of Yunnan Translators’ Association and an associate professor of English at Kunming University of Science and Technology, where he teaches pragmatic translation and advanced English. He majored in Chinese language and literature at Yunnan Normal University from 1978 to 1982 and did his master degree work in applied linguistics (teaching English as a foreign language) at Hunan University/Queens College, City University of New York from 1985 to 1987. He studied technical communication at Southern Polytehcnic State University as a visiting scholar from 1999 to 2001 and in 2007. He has published several articles on translation, contrastive rhetoric and technical communication. He is the author of Sino-American Cross Cultural Communication and Americans in Conversation: a Study of the Daily Speech Patterns of Diverse Individuals and a coauthor of Resources Recycling Technology

Course Description: 课程简介

 

1. 本课程旨在训练主修英文同学中英、英中笔译能力。

2. 理论引介、随堂/课后练习,使学生中、英译文皆达到忠实、通顺的水平。

3. 翻译理论及工具书简介;由传统英文文法词类分类法对中英、英中翻译做深入浅出的探讨;翻译作品赏析;介绍常见的误译等。4. 课重视习作,唯有学生努力练习,才能学习笔译技巧;习作后的检查为本课程重点。

1. This course aims to train Chinese students to translate English into Chinese and Chinese English.

2. The learners are expected to achieve a level of translation which may be read with ease and comfort.

3. The contents of this course include: introducing translation theories, references, Chinese/English translation practice based on the classification of traditional English parts of speeches; appreciation of translation of Chinese/English, introduction of common errors etc.

4. “Learning by doingis the philosophy and the key to success of this course. The review after exercise is the essential part of this course which students must pay close attention to it.

 

Course Objectives: 课程目标

 

1. 使学生了解翻译的基本原理,掌握分析,理解源语文本,以及将其译为适当的译入语文本的技巧和方法。

 

To introduce students to the basic principles of translation, the procedures and skills for analyzing/understanding the source text , and for generating appropriate target texts;

2. 帮助学生理解中英文在词法,句法,章法,语用,修辞和思维模式方面的异同,初步掌握处理原语中带有文化特点的语言成分的能力。

 

To help students understand the similarities and differences of English and Chinese in morphology, syntax, textual structure, pragmatic conventions, rhetoric devices, and thought patterns, and acquire preliminary capabilities for handling elements in the original that are tinged with the source culture;

3. 培养学生对于技术术语的意识,知道如何分辨技术术语与非技术术语以及如何准确地翻译技术术语

 

To cultivate students the ability to be aware of technical terms, knowing how to tell a term from a non-term and how to translate technical terms in a accurate way;

4. 使学生掌握选择和利用网络参考工具以及相关领域开发的工具,技术解决翻译中出现的难题的技巧。

 

To acquaint students with the skill of selecting and utilizing online reference tools as well as aids and techniques developed in related fields to solve complicated problems in translation.

 

Course Learning Outcomes: 课程学习结果

 

1. 学生能独立地每小时翻译中等难度的原语250350,译语内容准确完整,表达自然,用词正确,语篇衔接连贯。Students will be able to produce, on an independent basis and at the minimum speed of 250-350 words per hour for source texts of medium difficulty, translations that are accurate and complete in content, natural in expression, correct in terminology, and cohesive and coherent in textual structure.

2. 学生能把中等难度的中文文献如:可行性研究报告,建议书,商务信函,合同,协议,公司简介,专利,商标,,版权文献,招标文献,说明书操作手册译成英文。Students will be able to translate Chinese documentations (feasibility studies, proposals, business letter, contracts, agreements, company profiles, patents and trademarks, copyright documents, bid-documents, abstracts, indexes, bibliographies, instructions and manuals) of medium difficulty into English

 3. 学生能把中等难度的英文文献如:可行性研究报告,建议书,商务信函,合同,协议,公司简介,专利,商标,,版权文献,招标文献,说明书操作手册译成汉语。Students will be able to translate English documentations (feasibility studies, proposals, business letter, contracts, agreements, company profiles, patents and trademarks, copyright documents, bid-documents, abstracts, indexes, bibliographies, instructions and manuals) into Chinese 3. 学生能够将出国留学申请文件译为中文Students will be able to translate application documents for studying abroad into English

4. 学生能将中等难度的科技英语译为中文。Students will be able to translate English materials of science and technology of medium difficulty into Chinese

 

Course Requirements: 课程要求

 

Attendance:     Attend classes on time. Bring your textbooks, notebooks, exercise books and dictionaries with you when you come to class.

考勤:         按时上课,上课时需带课本,笔记本,练习本和词典。                                                 

 

Class participation: Participate class activities such as class discussion, peer and group work.

参与课堂活动:参加课堂活动,如课堂讨论,小组活动。

Written Assignments: Turn your assignment on time. Points will be deducted for late assignment.

作业:          按时交作业。不按时交者被扣分。

Group Projects: The student must consult with the professor before selecting a project for translation. A copy of the translation as well as the original text must be provided to the professor . Late projects will be docked 2 points for each calendar day late.

小组项目:      学生在选定翻译项目之前需咨询教师。需在规定的日期向教师提供原文和译文,每迟交一天扣2

Quizzes:        A weekly quiz will be given at the beginning of every encounter.

小考:         每次上课均有小考。

Exams:         There will be a final exam for each semester. The use of dictionaries WILL be permitted.

考试:        每学期期末有一次考试。考试时可以使用词典。

       10 points will be deducted from the final grade for each absence. You will fail the course if you are absent without leave 3 or more times per semester.
